Jara MacDermott

Co-Owner / CrossFit Coach

JFP_HiRes_CFIL_Open_15-5_20150328_47

Jara started her journey with CrossFit in 2009 after her husband Sean (CFIL co-owner), an active duty Air Force officer, began CrossFitting in Afghanistan and couldn’t stop talking to her about it. Upon his return and Level 1 Trainer certificate, he began coaching her at home. She had just had her third child, and although she had been a lifelong athlete, personal fitness had become secondary to raising her kids. CrossFit was an immediate match for her. It was fun and hard – it brought her back to fitness levels akin to her competitive lacrosse and ice hockey days.

Since receiving her Level 1 certificate in 2010 she has been coaching and wants to share with friends, neighbors, (anyone who shows interest, really) what CrossFit can help people accomplish physically, mentally and emotionally. She began coaching as a way to gain knowledge about fitness and movement and found that there is always more to learn and share with others.

For a brief time Jara considered returning to the workforce as lawyer, instead of pursuing her passion in coaching. When she shared her decision to open CrossFit Inner Loop with a friend, who also happens to be an interventional cardiologist, he replied “you will help save more lives than I ever could.” What an amazing statement — she could not feel better about any other job!

Jara’s personal goals are to lift with friends, compete against herself, and through CrossFit have energy to keep up with the busy lives of her three kids.

She joined a CrossFit gym in late 2012 and enjoyed the variety and functional aspects of the training. However, she really fell in love with it after coaches Jara and Rachel played an integral role in her rehab after ACL reconstruction in 2013.

Growing up in Minnesota, Andrea was a competitive speed skater and played several other sports. She still enjoys staying active today by playing roller derby, stand-up paddleboarding and dabbling in CrossFit and weightlifting competitions.

Credentials/Training:

Corrin

CrossFit Coach

Corrin started CrossFit in June 2012. After years as a competitive golfer in high school and at the University of Toledo, she was looking for a challenging workout program. She fell in love with CrossFit because it offers a great strength program while also promoting a supportive community that gives everyone the ability to achieve their personal best. She values the fact that CrossFit can be tailored to fit each individual’s personal goals, whether you come for the social aspects of the sport, to improve your fitness, or you come to compete.

As a CrossFit coach, Corrin enjoys working with people who have a diverse breadth of experience, from those who are picking up a barbell for the first time to those who have been lifting for years. She finds it incredible to be a part of someone’s journey and loves helping each athlete to have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Cristin Fair

Yoga Instructor

IMG_1020 (1)

Cristin began studying Iyengar yoga in 1991 and began teacher training in 1994.  She has studied and apprenticed with John Schumacher at Unity Woods in Bethesda MD, a leading Iyengar yoga institution.  Cristin taught at Unity Woods (prenatal, beginner to advanced classes) for many years until she took a break to raise her kids.  Anticipating her return to teaching, Cristin recently completed additional Iyengar yoga teacher training at the Casey Health Institute in Gaithersburg, a program grounded in anatomy, philosophy, and all aspects of yoga asana.  She is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT).

For CrossFitters who understand the importance of mobility, technical accuracy, and intelligence in movement, Iyengar yoga brings additional awareness and a different focus that maximizes the overall benefits of both practices. The use of props, equipment such as chairs, straps, blocks, etc. enables everyone regardless of age, strength, or flexibility to benefit from the study and practice of yoga.

As someone who loves to be active — regular CFIL Crossfit WODS, bootcamp, swimming, and tennis — Cristin finds that Iyengar yoga provides strength, stamina, balance, and flexibility and is core to her orientation to life.  She’s thrilled to be teaching at CFIL!

Erin Armstrong

CrossFit Coach

Erin first discovered CrossFit during a deployment to Afghanistan in 2012 but she didn’t fall in love with it until she became a member of her first “box” in Atlanta, GA in 2014. Being a self-professed “book worm” in high school and college Erin never really considered herself to be an athlete until she became addicted to the challenging and constantly varied workouts CrossFit has to offer. She finds that it is empowering to walk into the gym every day, track your progress, and continually watch your body change and improve and she looks forward to sharing that experience with others. If she had one regret it would be that she didn’t start doing CrossFit sooner! Erin enjoys working with athletes of all skill sets and experience levels and encouraging them to grow as athletes. She believes that the only thing more exciting than setting and reaching your own personal records is watching friends smash theirs!

Credentials/Training:

  • CrossFit Level 1 Trainer (January 2017)
  • USA Weightlifting Level 1 Sport Performance Coach (October 2016)

Erinn Monteiro

Training & Operations Manager / CrossFit Coach

Erinn, a former All-American and NCAA champion in swimming, found CrossFit in late 2012 after almost a decade of aimlessly “working out” with no real performance goals. She was immediately hooked on CrossFit because of its refreshing perspective on strength and overall fitness, and similar to swimming, that there were an unlimited number of ways to constantly improve.

With experience in sports psychology, education, and quality improvement, Erinn has been coaching and training others in some capacity for over 15 years. One of the things she likes most about CrossFit, other than the community, is its unique ability to bring out the athlete in everyone, regardless of age or background. As a coach at CFIL, Erinn enjoys helping members discover their potential and redefine their perception of themselves, and ultimately seeing these seemingly small mindset shifts transfer over to other areas of their lives.

Currently, Erinn is living in Brazil but remains involved in supporting the gym’s day-to-day operations in a remote role, and of course coaches as much as she can when she comes back to visit!

Nick Alexander

CrossFit Coach / CrossFit Kids

Nick wouldn’t call himself a gym rat, but was reasonably fit through his 20s thanks to soccer and the US Army.  Like many, Nick basically took a decade off from exercise (other than cycling) – law school, kids, and developing career all seemed like excellent excuses.  He decided to make a change in 2011, training brazilian jiu-jitsu (at BETA Academy in DC).  Nick realized rather quickly that (a) fitness matters in BJJ, and (b) that fitness matters more when you’re 40ish and grappling with a bunch of 20 somethings.Nick’s CrossFit journey began in January 2012, but he lost a good chunk of that year to injuries from BJJ – a left ACL reconstruction and three vertebrae (C5-C7) fused in October.  Nick learned first-hand the benefits of an active recovery and how CrossFit can be scaled to accommodate just about anything – even someone three weeks out from back surgery.

Since then, Nick has earned a blue belt and totally embraced CrossFit. Nick notes, ”I’ve also discovered that I really enjoy coaching kids. I enjoy the challenge of figuring out how to effectively teach kids relatively complicated techniques while making sure that they’re having fun. I really appreciate the family-friendly atmosphere at Inner Loop, and I’m looking forward to growing as a Coach and helping develop the CrossFit Kids program at Inner Loop.”

She has worked with all levels of athletes, from those looking for general fitness to those training for a specific event. Rachel believes a positive outlook helps her clients achieve their goals, and she fosters a positive training environment to help clients overcome self-doubt and achieve their full potential.

His fitness background includes a range of weightlifting, martial arts, and yoga. What he enjoys the most about CrossFit is the range of challenges in the daily workouts that push him to leave his comfort zone and do things he would not normally choose to do.
