Do I have to get in shape first before I start?

NO! This is probably one of the most common questions we get. What kind of fitness program only welcomes fit people? Come to us because you want to improve on your current level of fitness. Each class will consist of people with various levels of ability. That’s why our coaches assess each individual and offer scaling options — so that you can thrive in each workout on a personal level. Fitness is a lifelong journey, we are never really “there.”

What are classes like?

Classes are FUN and engaging. Classes run one hour, beginning with an instructor-led warm up. We will get you moving and dynamically stretching in order to prepare your body for the rest of the class. We then huddle up and talk about our strength portion of the workout, or the skill we are working on that day — all classes in a given day will be doing the same Workout of the Day (WOD) that we have posted ahead of time on our blog. Our instructors take the time to demonstrate and teach the movements. We usually start by having the class perform the movements using PVC pipe or no weight at all before gradually progressing to loaded movements. Your coach will teach you the correct movement, then watch you as you learn to perform these movements safely and efficiently… before bringing on the intensity.

I am afraid I will get too big and bulky?

We receive this question primarily from women who are interested in CrossFit but fear getting big. Put simply, in order to get bulky you have to want to get bulky. In order to get big you’d have to eat an extremely high calorie diet. You would also have to pick up very heavy weight on a frequent basis. Yes, we are very much concerned about your strength and we do lift heavy some days but this is not our only method of training. In our experience, people who CrossFit become much leaner with better muscle definition.

I can’t do CrossFit because I don’t want to aggravate previous injuries.

Numerous clients of ours have come through the doors with previous injuries or tweaks and found relief from the pain by strengthening the muscles around the problem area. All too often people neglect exercising for fear of reinjuring themselves. Avoiding the gym and weight-bearing exercises simply leaves people deconditioned, weak, and more susceptible to injury in the first place. Taking part in CrossFit can help you become stronger and provide you a buffer so that you can prevent these kinds of injuries. The movements and workouts are all completely scalable allowing anyone to take part. Always let a coach know about a previous injury or any mobility limitations so that we can help you become stronger, safely.

Can I get a good workout in under 30 minutes?

Yes, this is absolutely what we believe in. More and more research shows that shorter duration/higher intensity workouts yield higher benefits/results. Basically, it just boils down to hard work. But the truth is, the longer the effort the lower our intensity. If you run 10 miles your intensity (power output) will be lower than if you run multiple 400 meter sprints. For our metabolic conditioning portions, CrossFit Inner Loop does go beyond 20 minutes on occasion, but the majority of our workouts are shorter in duration.

I have heard you can get hurt doing CrossFit, is this true?

CrossFit is safer than many activities, though like any activity there is a chance for injury without the proper instruction. We like to work with people in 3 stages. First: mechanics (learning how to do the movements with correct technique), Second: Consistency (the ability to do the movements over and over again with safe and relatively efficient technique), Third: Intensity (the speed at which you do the movements). One does not come before the other. We always start with Mechanics.

I feel it is too expensive, is this true?

CrossFit Inner Loop classes are all instructor-led, from the first minute of class to the last. It’s more like small group personal training with a lot of variety and fun! CrossFit is often difficult to compare to other fitness programs. Have you ever had the experience of walking into a typical gym and thinking “now what?” That won’t happen here. When you walk through our door you will always receiving group personal training. Our head coach has thought out all the programming. No longer will you have to think about whether it’s an ‘arms’ day. CrossFit touches it all in a variety of ways over the course of a week. Everything becomes stronger and you have fun in the process.

I have heard CrossFit is really hard, is this true?

CrossFit is as hard as you make it. We encourage people to push to the limits of their own tolerances but only you can make the most out of your own workouts with the amount of work you put into them.
