We are excited to extend a warm welcome to veteran Coach Steve Maki, who has been part of our community as an athlete for the past year. He is joining us as part-time coach, and you can hope to see him on some evenings and Saturday mornings. Steve has a strong background in gymnastics training, so be sure to hit him up with questions on your progressions for bodyweight movements (e.g., working on your kipping arch and hollow, pull up and muscle-up progressions, and of course handstand work!).
Steve’s bio is included with our other coach bios on our website, but is also pasted below.
Steve Maki was first introduced to CrossFit during a Navy deployment in 2010 and began formally training in October 2011. His passion for sports and athletics developed at an early age through his participation in competitive gymnastics and other youth sports. In high school he began focusing on hockey which he continued to play through college at the United States Naval Academy.
Along with coaching, Steve is an active duty Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and holds an MBA from Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School. Additionally, he is the Founder/Director of Capital Competitions, a national network of fitness competition leagues.
Steve completed the CrossFit Level 1 Certificate Course in August 2012 and holds CrossFit training certificates in Gymnastics and Mobility; along with attending Diane Fu’s Olympic Weightlifting Course. Steve is a Professional Member of USA Gymnastics and is certified through USA Gymnastics University as a Gymnastics Instructor and Junior Olympic Development Coach.
