Bio
Cristin began studying Iyengar yoga in 1991 and began teacher training in 1994. She has studied and apprenticed with John Schumacher at Unity Woods in Bethesda MD, a leading Iyengar yoga institution. Cristin taught at Unity Woods (prenatal, beginner to advanced classes) for many years until she took a break to raise her kids. Anticipating her return to teaching, Cristin recently completed additional Iyengar yoga teacher training at the Casey Health Institute in Gaithersburg, a program grounded in anatomy, philosophy, and all aspects of yoga asana. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT).
For CrossFitters who understand the importance of mobility, technical accuracy, and intelligence in movement, Iyengar yoga brings additional awareness and a different focus that maximizes the overall benefits of both practices. The use of props, equipment such as chairs, straps, blocks, etc. enables everyone regardless of age, strength, or flexibility to benefit from the study and practice of yoga.
As someone who loves to be active — regular CFIL Crossfit WODS, bootcamp, swimming, and tennis — Cristin finds that Iyengar yoga provides strength, stamina, balance, and flexibility and is core to her orientation to life. She’s thrilled to be teaching at CFIL!
